Extract of the Will of Sir Henry Fermor
In the Name of God Amen
I, Sir Henry Fermor of Walshes in the County of Sussex and of Sevenoaks in the County of Kent, Baronet, considering the uncertainty of life and being desirous to settle my Estate and affairs in the world, do, this one and twentieth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and thirty two make this my last Will and Testament in manner following:-
towards the end of the Will:
I will and appoint William Okill of Sevenoaks aforesaid shall be School Master of the Charity School I have directed to be built in the parish of Rotherfield and give fifty pounds to the parish of Rotherfield in Sussex to be laid out in Communion plate as Mr Wenham the present Minister or the Minister of the said Church at the time of my death shall direct
and subsequently:
I will and divest that my Trustees shall lay out any sum not exceeding the sum of fifteen hundred pounds in erecting and building a Chapel or Church and a Charity School in the plainest and cheapest manner so as it be strong and lasting for the ease and benefit of the parishes and parishioners of Rotherfield and Buxted in the said County of Sussex which Church and Charity school I will shall be erected and built in or near a place called Crowborough and Ashdown Forest as my Executors shall think most convenient for the use and benefit of these very ignorant and heathenish people.
